I haven't blogged anything in a while, partly because I haven't managed to have the time and partly because I haven't really seen much that rings my bell.

But these photos from Nicholas Hughes change all that. They pretty much capture that moment when the light goes out and you stand there waiting for your eyes to become accustomed to the dark. The atmosphere is quite intense, kinda unnerving me despite the fact i'm in sitting in my bright as day, noisy office.

A set of interesting paper rings by Tithi Kutchamuch and Nutre Arayavanish. They come flat in laser cut sheets and you origami them into shape. Of course they aren't the most durable thing in the world, but that just makes them even cooler. Looking through each of their sites they both have plenty of other interesting pieces including Nutres excellent postable jewellery, keep it in mind when you need a fifth wedding anniversary present.

El&Abe are the worst kind of graffitti artists, they don't use spraypaint or even paint. They don't write their real tag names (or if they do what kind of tag is "Nourish"?) and their graf looks all nice and soft instead of badass! How can you be taken seriously as a Graf artist if you write in Moss......The cops wouldn't know what to do if they catch you.

Australian film makers Jason van Genderen (director), Shane Emmett (producer), and John Roy (music composer) have made this brilliant short film shot entirely on mobile phones in Sydney and New York City. Thankfully their genius was rewarded by winning Best Film at Tropfest NY 2008. check it.

Another great photographer worth checking out. Markus has a method of using the light and shutter speeds that ad the surreal to everyday scenarios. I love the way he uses saturation in his shots. Be sure to check out his personal project on Land Speed Racing. here.

Furniture designer Brodie Neill showed his new pieces in London recently at the Apartment Gallery. Now his "Pop" table is alright but his "Remix" chaise lounge is absolutely beautiful. I can't imagine that it is too comfortable to lie on for long, but i'd spend my time lying on the floor viewing it from different angles. Made from laminated plastic, plywood, chipboard and fibreboard which is then CNC cut from one huge block, I can see why this is a very limited edition piece. Simple idea, amazing result.

Would you call Nick Veasy a Photographer or a Radiographer? He creates xrays where others create photos and they are amazing. The above image was put life size on the side of a bus, but freaked people out a little too much so had to be taken off. He has also X-rayed a Mechanical digger...oh and a Boeing 777 jet INSIDE a hanger.......I wonder if he worries about cancer?

Nick (no not that Nick, another Nick) just pointed out how Nick (that Nick) got into the field.

“My girlfriend's father used to be a lorry driver,” explains Nick with a mischievous smile. “At one time he drove a lorry for a couple of days which contained thousands of cans of Pepsi, one of which had a ring-pull prizeworth £100,000.“I thought I’d try a scam. I decided to hire an x-ray machine from a localhospital to find the winning can. I never did find it, but it sparked off theideas for the career I have today.”

Designer Rolf Sachs does make some damn fine lights, though the idea of a light bulb in water does freak me out a little. Infact he designs a lot of things, but his lights are my favourite. They create instant intrigue, looking like a series made with some home science experiment kit. Might be quite hard to read a book with though.

Rainbow Glasses by (RGB) Portuegese designer Luís Porém. The frame is clear and hollow so that you can pour in ink of any colour. Looks pretty cool but must be an absolute bearch to clean in between colours. link.

Brent Comber takes the idea of making furniture out of wood pretty damn literally. Yes you could confuse the above photo with a stack of firewood, but that just proves a stack of fire wood does look beautiful. Brent creates wood sculptures and furniture from his studio in Vancouver Canada and i'm loving the natural simplicity of his work. His series of "shattered" logs is one of my favourites.

Thomas Grunfeld has created a series of images titled "Misfits" and that seems to be an understatement. Seemlessly combining various animals and birds together he ends up making some quite unsettling mutants, but does make you think... if we weren't so used to looking at ourselves everyday... we would look pretty damn weird as well.

The Play Coalition is a creative design collaboration between three friends and I love the stuff they are coming up with so far. From the ink stamp seen above, leaving room for you to doodle away... to the Matytr lamp (below) showing playing with electrical sockets can be fun.

Looking forward to seeing what new suprises they come up with in the future.

Cabin Fever

This is a beautiful, very minimal cabin designed by Belgian architects Robbrecht en Daem. It's pure simplicity and size makes it very doll house like while the black and white photgraphy does make it seem like something out of the blair witch project. Aside from that, I could quite happily sit on that deck waiting for a fish to bite and need nothing more in life.

Australian artist Jeremy Geddes paints these highly realistic portrayals of various scenes, some quite ordinary with perhaps a kosmonaut dropped in or others more frightening. I do like the kosmonauts. link.
